DOL Timesheet App

June 22, 2011

The tech-savvy DOL has a brand new app to help employees keep track of their hours worked: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dol-timesheet/id433638193?mt=8#. This free itunes application does the math on the proper amount of pay owed to employees when employers won't.

A brief refresher: the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), says that for each hour a non-exempt employee works over 40 in a single workweek, an employer must pay that employee 1.5 times their regular rate of pay. Sound complicated? It can be, and that's where the app comes in. By entering all time actually worked during a workweek, the employee gets a contemporary time record that can provide evidence in court that an employer is not paying overtime. The app even calculates the amount owed based the employees regular rate of pay.

This app is good news for employees who suspect their employers are violating the law. Download the app and see where you stand. You might be surprised.
